On Monday, Dr Amrita Duhan, an officer of the Indian Police Service, assumed the responsibility of the Superintendent of Police in Kota. After taking charge, she stated that her top priority is to alleviate the stress of coaching students in Kota.
She mentioned that having personally experienced the stress of preparing for the MBBS pre-test, she understands the mental state associated with it. Dr Duhan emphasised that she, too, has faced a challenging mentality while studying for the MBBS exam. Recognising the mental pressure parents undergo regarding their children’s studies, she expressed her empathy.
After assuming office, she inspected the Police Superintendent’s office and also had a meeting with IG Ravi Dutt God. Dr Duhan, who has previously worked in Kota for nearly two and a half years, bringing her experience to her new responsibility, stated that she would work per the guidance of senior police officers and the directives of the state government.
She highlighted that students from every corner of the country come to Kota for coaching, and the name of Kota is known nationwide. However, the current atmosphere in Kota is causing depression among students, and efforts will be made to address this issue.
Strict action against criminals
Dr. Duhan made it clear that she would give 100% results from her end, and criminals would not be spared at any cost. She pledged to work with everyone to ensure that law and order in the city are maintained. She acknowledged the staff shortage in Kota, stating that out of 41 police inspector posts, only 18 have been filled, and efforts would be made to fill the remaining 23 posts.
Addressing the increasing drug addiction among students
She expressed concern about the growing addiction to drugs among students and noted that not only students but their families are also suffering. Dr. Duhan emphasised the need to work on rescuing students from this predicament. The famous reputation of Kota for its coaching industry will be reviewed to prevent such incidents from happening again. Upon her arrival from Jodhpur to Kota, the police officer was welcomed by officials.
