The current skincare trend which is raging in the market is that of the famous Korean skincare. For those who are unaware of this holy grail skin routine, the key USP of Korean skincare products is that it emphasises hydration, a multi-step routine, and customization. It focuses on maintaining optimal moisture levels for a resilient skin barrier. According to Dr. Aparajita Lamba (MD Dermatology), “The routine includes cleansing, toning, exfoliating, treating, moisturising, and protecting the skin. Each step has the purpose to enhance skin health”. The approach recognizes individual needs, allowing personalised product selection for specific concerns. Korean skincare aims for healthy, radiant skin.
THE RISING POPULARITY
Korean skincare has gained tremendous popularity in the Indian market, primarily due to two key factors. Firstly, the increasing influence of K-dramas and K-pop has sparked an interest in Korean culture, leading people to adopt Korean skincare practices as part of their daily routines. Additionally, the use of natural ingredients such as 24-carat gold, snail mucin, lotus extracts, and more in Korean skincare products appeals to Indian consumers who appreciate natural ingredients. Despite differences in skin concerns, Dr. Lamba explains that it is the effective marketing and easy accessibility of Korean skincare that has further propelled the popularity of these products in India.
THE BENEFITS
Korean skincare offers numerous benefits including improved hydration, enhanced skin texture, reduced signs of ageing, and a radiant complexion. The emphasis on a multi-step
routine and a wide list of tailored & customisable products allows for a holistic approach to skincare, resulting in healthier and more youthful-looking skin. According to Dr. Lamba, the usage of products and ingredients such as Ginseng, Snail Mucin, Centella Asiatica, Fermented Rice Water, Licorice Root, Pearl, Birch, and Bamboo Extract makes the products so beneficial for the skin.

SOME OF THE BENEFITS OF THESE INGREDIENTS INCLUDE:

Ginseng
Ginseng offers anti-ageing properties – all thanks to its antioxidants that protect against premature ageing. It also brightens the skin by improving circulation and energises tired-looking skin.
Liquorice Root Extract
Liquorice Root Extract, on the other hand, Dr. Lamba explains, is known for its skin brightening effects and its ability to reduce hyperpigmentation and dark spots. It is the most suited for individuals dealing with pigmentation issues.
Pearl & Gold Extract
Products made using Pearl Extract contain amino acids and minerals that help promote a youthful complexion and even skin tone. When accentuated with 24k Gold, it adds a touch of luxury while offering antioxidant properties and improving skin elasticity. Dr. Lamba shares that dry and dull skin types can benefit from skincare products containing 24-carat gold and pearl extracts since these are known for their natural radiance and glow.
Snail Mucin
Dr. Lamba vouches for Snail Mucin and she says that it is valued for its hydrating and healing properties and helps in accelerating skin repair and reduces redness. It also has
a soothing effect and helps gently exfoliate the skin. Fermented Rice Water Fermented rice water is rich in vitamins and minerals, providing moisturising and brightening benefits. While the benefits of Korean skincare products are endless, Dr. Lmaba suggests the usage of the best and high-quality products only. She adds, “Some of these ingredients may
cause irritation or allergies so ensure your safety by always choosing high-quality products and conduct a patch test before incorporating them into your regular skincare routine”.
