World Soil Day as a means to raise awareness about the importance of soil while encouraging people to take steps towards improving soil health, is held on 5 December every year. The theme for World Soil Day this year is “Soils: where food begins”, as 95% of our food originates in the soil.

Netizens put #WorldSoilDay2022 on the top trend to raise awareness about soil. Manipur Minister for Forest and Environment, Th. Biswajit Singh, posted a tweet: “On World Soil Day 2022, let us all resolve to raise awareness of the importance of maintaining healthy ecosystems and human well-being by addressing the growing challenges in soil management, increasing soil awareness & encouraging societies to improve soil health.”

Sadhguru also tweeted, “May #WorldSoilDay become a day of gratitude & celebration of the Giver of Life on this planet, not a day to assuage its cry of distress. May we walk the path until the agricultural soils of the world are bursting with Life. Let’s make it happen. #SaveSoil”

Another netizen posted, “Happy #WorldSoilDay2022. A spoonful of healthy soil has more living organisms than there are people on earth. Try adding some compost and mulch for healthy soil!”.
