The Special Investigation Unit (SIU) in Baramulla has taken a significant step forward in the pursuit of justice in narco-terror-related cases. Today, SIU Baramulla presented the charge sheet for case FIR No. 104/2023 under sections 7/25 IA Act, 120-B IPC, 13, 18, 18B, 20, 23, and 40 UAP Act of Police Station Uri, before the Hon’ble Court of Additional Sessions Judge (NIA Court) in Baramulla.
The comprehensive charge sheet involves six accused individuals, all currently in judicial custody. The named suspects include Mohd Aslam Khatana, son of Atta Mohd, resident of Churunda Uri; Muneer Ahmad Din Masi, son of Mohammad Din, resident of Jabla Uri; Bilal Ahmad Dar, son of Gh Mohidin Dar, resident of Hard Shiva Sopore; Akhtar Niyaz Bhat, son of Niyaz Ahmad, resident of Mukhdam Mohalla Tarzoo Sopore; Mudasir Yousuf Goknu, son of Mohd Yousuf, resident of Bagi Islam Krankshivan Colony Sopore. Additionally, Mohd Hassan Awan, son of Raj Mohd Awan, resident of Dharkoot Uri, presently residing in Tehsil Bagh PoK, has been named in the charge sheet under section 299 CrPC. The charges stem from an incident on 11/08/2023 when arms & ammunition, along with narcotics, were seized from the five accused at a checkpoint established at Powarian Thajal Uri.
Investigations revealed their involvement in cross-border smuggling of arms & ammunition at the behest of Pakistan-based terror handlers. The weapons were intended for further distribution to Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists, facilitating their engagement in terror activities.
The Hon’ble Court has scheduled the next hearing for the case on 20/02/2024. This development underscores the ongoing efforts to combat narco-terrorism and its nexus with cross-border smuggling activities.
