Sikkim Election Result 2024: CM Prem Singh Tamang Retains Rhenock Seat

Sikkim’s Chief Minister and the leader of the Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM), Prem Singh Tamang, clinched victory in the Rhenock assembly constituency by a substantial margin of 7,044 votes, according to the Elections Commission of India’s website as of Sunday, June 1.

Tamang garnered a total of 10,094 votes, outpacing his closest competitor from the Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF), Som Nath Poudyal, who received 3,050 votes in the keenly contested electoral battle. The ruling SKM won seven assembly seats and was leading in 24 other constituencies.

Samdup Lepcha, representing the Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM), emerged victorious in the fiercely contested Lachen Mangan assembly seat, securing a notable win by defeating his closest opponent, Hishey Lachungpa of the Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF), with a substantial margin of 851 votes.

This significant outcome has been officially confirmed by the Election Commission of India, highlighting the democratic fervor and political dynamics within Sikkim’s electoral landscape.

SKM candidate Puran Kumar Gurung secured a resounding victory in the Chujachen seat, prevailing over his closest competitor Mani Kumar Gurung with a substantial margin of 3,334 votes. Similarly, Pintso Namgyal Lepcha, also representing SKM, clinched triumph in the Djongu Assembly constituency, triumphing over Sonam Gyatso Lepcha of SDF by an impressive margin of 5,007 votes.

Former chief minister and Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) supremo Pawan Kumar Chamling found himself in a challenging position in the ongoing elections, with early results showing him trailing behind SKM candidate Raju Basnet by a margin of 1,852 votes in the Namcheybung seat.

Similarly, in the Poklok Kamrang Assembly constituency, Chamling faced a deficit of 3,063 votes against SKM’s Bhoj Raj Rai, highlighting a competitive and closely watched electoral battle in Sikkim.

Former captain of the Indian football team and candidate of the Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF), Bhaichung Bhutia, was lagging behind his opponent Riksal Dorjee Bhutia from the Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) by a margin of 4,012 votes in the Barfung assembly seat.

Dilli Ram Thapa, the president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) unit in Sikkim, was trailing behind his SKM competitor Kala Rai by 2,568 votes in the Upper Burtuk assembly constituency.
