The narrative used in certain songs that the girls only fish for shopping, is not the reality,” Sona said in a chucklesome comment over Indian songs. She said, “Popular culture affects us insidiously. There is a single narrative that women are only interested in shopping, make-up, and getting dressed. This is not the reality. The reality is that women work harder than men with a 23% wage gap.” Talking about her experience at engineering college, Mohapatra said, “I used to manage so many things at college, even ride a horse and henceforth had to face demeaning graffiti where I was slutshamed. The college campus has since then changed a lot and girls are now able to wear whatever they want to.”
