A Secret Service agent assigned to protect US Vice President Kamala Harris got into a fistfight with several other agents on Monday morning, the agency acknowledged, following reports from The New York Post. The agent was then deleted from Harris’ detail, according to Fox News Digital.

Before Harris got there, the fight broke out at around nine in the morning local time close to Joint Base Andrews, which is just outside of Washington, DC. The concerned agent’s identity remains undisclosed; nevertheless, the Secret Service declared that they were immediately “removed from their assignment.”

The Post was notified by Anthony Guglielmi, US Secret Service chief of communications, that “a US Secret Service special agent supporting the Vice President’s departure from Joint Base Andrews began displaying behaviour their colleagues found distressing.” He underlined the organization’s dedication to worker health and safety.

Harris’s travel plans were not delayed despite the fact that emergency services were called to the area. Guglielmi said that since it was a “medical matter,” more information would not be provided.

Harris continued with her journey to New York City in spite of the event in order to appear on “The Drew Barrymore Show.”

The New York Post, citing the Washington Examiner, reported that the agent involved in the altercation was armed and exhibited aggression toward others. Attempts by supervisors to de-escalate the situation were unsuccessful, resulting in a physical altercation. Reports suggested the agent displayed erratic behavior upon arrival, culminating in an assault on the special agent in charge of the vice president. Subsequently, the agent was handcuffed and received medical attention.

The incident prompted scrutiny of the agent’s hiring process, including assessments of their background. Pre-existing concerns about the agent’s conduct were noted, as reported by The New York Post, citing RealClearPolitics.

Guglielmi confirmed that Harris was briefed on the situation, according to The New York Post.
