The Supreme Court on Monday urged for the development of a broad system to deal with violence against women in strife-torn Manipur and inquired as to how many FIRs had been filed in such incidences in the state since May.

Tushar Mehta, standing for the Centre, told a panel led by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud that the national government had no issue to the supreme court overseeing the inquiry into the Manipur violence.

The panel, which also includes Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra, is hearing a slew of petitions related to the unrest in Manipur. The hearing in the case is currently underway.
