The apex court has granted interim bail to Mohammad Zubair in all six FIRs lodged against him in Uttar Pradesh.

In an FIR registered by its special cell, Justice DY Chandrachud, heading the Supreme Court bench, said there was not any justification in keeping Zubair under custody when he had already been granted bail by the Delhi court.

The whole breadth of tweets and funds in regard to the case is being investigated by the special cell.

The court has ordered Zubair to submit a bail bond of ₹20,000 to the magistrate court at Patiala House.

The court has also directed that all the FIRs should be clubbed together to be investigated by one authority.Zubair had filed a petition earlier to club all the FIRs registered against him with the one registered by the Delhi police.

The court has transferred all the FIRs lodged in different parts of the country, including that in Uttar Pradesh, to the Delhi police.

The Special Investigating Team (SIT) set up by the Uttar Pradesh government to look into the derogatory tweets has been disbanded.

In his tweets, Zubair has been alleged by the UP government of accepting payments to fuel communalism.

Advocate Garima Prasad, representing the UP government, argued that Zubair gets paid more for a more malicious tweet. He is said to have received approximately 2 crore.
