SC Collegium Recommended Appointment Of Advocate Pranav Shailesh Trivedi As The Judge Of Gujarat High Court

The Supreme Court Collegium recommended the appointment of Advocate, Pranav Shailesh Trivedi for the appointment as the Judge of Gujarat High Court. The Supreme Court Collegium bench comprising of Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, and Justice Sanjiv Khanna and Justice BR Gavai has passed the resolution which reveals that on September 26, 2022 the Collegium of the High Court of Gujarat unanimously recommended, inter alia, that Pranav Shailesh Trivedi be appointed as a Judge of the Gujarat High Court.

The Supreme Court Collegium Recommended that the proposal for the elevation of Pranav Shailesh Trivedi be returned to the Chief Justice of the High Court of Gujarat for being considered at the appropriate stage.

The Chief Minister and the Governor of the State of Gujarat concurred with the above said recommendation, and on March 02, 2023. It has been stated that as per the resolution, the Department of Justice has referred back the file for positive consideration of the above proposal.

The Supreme Court Collegium in its resolution stated that we have reconsidered our earlier recommendation dated March 02, 2023 in light of the reasons recorded by the Department of Justice in the file. Further enquires have been made to come to a definite conclusion as to his suitability. Thus, the Candidate was enrolled with the State Bar Council in the year 2000 and has put in 23 years of practice at the Gujarat High Court.

Further, the Supreme Court Collegium stated that his practice includes the taxation, civil, criminal, constitutional, labour, company and service cases.
Advocate Pranav Shailesh Trivedi is specialized in taxation and criminal law. He also qualifies in terms of age and income criteria and has a well-established practice and he has appeared in cases which results in 68 reported judgments in matters argued by him.

The Supreme Court Collegium Resolution endorsed the observations made in the file by the Department of Justice while referring back the above proposal for positive consideration and are of the considered view that Pranav Shailesh Trivedi was fit and suitable for being elevated as a Judge of the Gujarat High Court.
