Satya School has unveiled its innovative #BeyondTheObvious initiative, partnering with globally renowned photographer Vicky Roy. This summer program aims to unlock the power of visual storytelling, encouraging Satyans to think creatively and develop their storytelling abilities through photography. The initiative seeks to build diverse perspectives by helping students appreciate their surroundings.

Manisha Malhotra, Director Principal of Satya School, Gurugram, expressed her excitement about the program. “We are thrilled to launch our #BeyondTheObvious initiative designed to enhance our students’ visual storytelling skills. Photography is a powerful medium for expression; this workshop will help students harness their creativity and use the lens to understand unique perspectives and circumstances. If their pictures can make even one individual reflect and make a difference, then the aim has been achieved. Looking #BeyondTheObvious is all about peeling the layers. We are grateful to Vicky Roy for joining us in this endeavor. His experience in photography will undoubtedly inspire our Satyans to explore and communicate themselves in the most profound way. We look forward to the inspiring stories our students will tell through their photographs.”

The initiative represents a shift from traditional learning methods, highlighting the impact of visual storytelling in education. Recognizing photography’s ability to enhance imagination and shape narratives, Vicky Roy conducted an engaging workshop for the students. He taught key photography techniques and encouraged students to find the extraordinary in the ordinary, creating compelling narratives inspired by their surroundings.

As part of the initiative, a photo competition was launched as a summer vacation assignment, allowing students to showcase their creativity. An esteemed jury, including Director Principal Manisha Malhotra and guest photographer Vicky Roy, will select the top entries for social media sharing. The competition will culminate with the announcement of winners on World Photography Day, August 19, 2024.

Vicky Roy, renowned for his exceptional talent and passion for visual storytelling, expressed his enthusiasm for the collaboration. “It’s been a great experience to bring different perspectives to the students at Satya School. This initiative will empower young minds to capture their vision through the lens, enhance their art of communication, and allow their creativity to soar. I believe that by fostering their innate curiosity and guiding them to see the world through a unique lens, we can inspire the next generation of storytellers.”

From runaway to renowned photographer, Vicky Roy’s journey epitomizes the power of passion and perseverance, inspiring Satya School’s holistic approach to education. His debut solo exhibition, “Street Dream” in 2017, supported by the British High Commission, catapulted him onto a global stage. Documenting the World Trade Center’s reconstruction and earning Forbes Asia’s 30 under 30 in 2016, his acclaim soared. Recognized with the MIT Media Fellowship in 2014, he’s conducted guest sessions at Harvard, Facebook, Google, and the World Bank. His remarkable journey culminated in a meeting with Prince Edward at Buckingham Palace.
