In a series of efforts led by Sant Seechewal, Punjab’s youth stranded in foreign countries are being repatriated to India. In a press conference on Tuesday, Sant Seechewal shared information that six Punjabi youths stranded in Russia’s jail have been released. They have successfully returned home on Tuesday. He mentioned that the younger generation is leaning towards foreign travel in pursuit of employment, facing various mental stressors and financial losses in the process. He stated that the returning youth conveyed being lured by travel agents to Europe, where they were deceived. They were taken to Moscow by agents after extracting 13 lakh rupees from each of them and then were abandoned. Later, their families contacted Seechewal.
Contact was established between Seechewal and the Indian Embassy in Moscow. Subsequently, today, six Punjabi youths stranded in Russia’s jail have been released. They include Balwinder Singh from Nivasi Sohana, Fazilka; Gurmeet Singh from Kapurthala; Guru Vishwas Singh from Gurdaspur; Harjeet Singh from Gurdaspur; Lakhvir Singh from Shahkot; and Rahul from Karnal, Haryana, who have returned home.
Returned people appealed to the youth not to travel abroad in the wrong way, not to waste their and their parents’ money, and not to risk their lives. At this time, the returning youth shared their harrowing experiences. They disclosed that travel agents took 13 lakh rupees from each of them in the name of sending them to Europe. Initially, the agents took them to Oman. Then they were taken to Moscow, where they stayed for 16 days. Later, they were taken to Belarus, from where they were trying to enter Europe through the forests of Portugal. There, they were caught by the army and put in jail.
They were not provided with any food or drink, and our family members contacted Sant Seechewal on December 17. Contact was made with the Rajya Sabha member Sant Seechewal. Thanks to his efforts, on December 24, we returned home. They thanked Sant Seechewal and appealed to the younger generation not to go abroad in the wrong way.
