Samantha Ruth Prabhu starrer Shaakuntalam had a low opening day at the worldwide box office as it collected around Rs 5 crores gross on day 1. Gunasekhar’s directorial is a mythology drama based on the popular play Abhignyana Shakuntalam by Kalidasa.
The film collected around Rs 40 lakh nett from its Hindi versions on Day. It was an ambitious project and was marketed as a pan-India film but it eventually didn’t create the pan-India impact that it had to, atleast going by the day 1 numbers of the film.
At an event, the gorgeous Samantha revealed that she first rejected Gunasekhar’s directorial because she did not have the confidence to play the character. Apart from Samantha and Dev, the film also stars Sachin Khedekar, Kabir Bedi, Dr M Mohan Babu, Prakash Raj, Madhubala, Gautami, Aditi Balan, Ananya Nagalla, Jisshu Sengupta. Superstar Allu Arjun’s darling daughter Allu Arha also made her acting debut in Shaakuntalam. Allu Arha was seen in a cameo role. In the film, she played the role of Prince Bharata.
After Shaakuntalam, Samantha will be seen in Kushi opposite Vijay Deverakonda and Citadel alongside Bollywood actor Varun Dhawan.
