"Safest Place to Be Will Be Inside the Stadium": Nassau Police Commissioner on Security for India-Pak T20 WC Match

Patrick Ryder, Nassau County Police Department commissioner, assured on Thursday that Eisenhower Park stadium will be the safest place in the county on June 9, where the ICC T20 World Cup clash between India and Pakistan will occur.

Security measures will be heightened at New York’s Eisenhower Park stadium ahead of the India versus Pakistan clash in the ICC T20 World Cup on June 9, following reports of threats to the match. Despite the concerns, the governor’s office stated that there is currently no credible public safety threat.

Commissioner Ryder emphasized the extensive security preparations for the event, stating that the department has been planning for the past six months. Eisenhower Park will undergo strict security protocols, including metal detector screenings for spectators and restricted parking arrangements.

During the event, the park will be closed from 6:30 a.m. to approximately 6 p.m., with police ensuring the area’s safety. VIP ticket holders will have limited parking at Eisenhower Park, while others will park near the Nassau Coliseum, with designated rideshare drop-off and pick-up locations.

Ryder highlighted the substantial police presence on the ground and in the air, collaborating with various law enforcement agencies for enhanced security. Governor Kathy Hochul affirmed her commitment to ensuring the safety of the Cricket World Cup, directing increased security measures and advanced surveillance.

The ICC reiterated its commitment to robust security measures across all tournament venues, ensuring the safety of all participants. India’s presence in the US for four matches, including the high-profile clash against Pakistan, has prompted heightened security measures.

While the Indian team has commenced training in New York, star player Virat Kohli is yet to join following a break after a successful IPL campaign. The ICC and Cricket West Indies have assured comprehensive safety measures for fans and players alike during the World Cup.
