In a significant blow to the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), Chandigarh candidate Hardeep Singh Butrela tendered his resignation from the party’s membership on Monday. Speaking at a press conference held in Chandigarh, Butrela expressed his disillusionment with the party’s policies.

Butrela lamented the lack of support from senior party leaders despite being declared the Chandigarh candidate. He emphasized that no senior figure visited Chandigarh to extend their support during his campaign. Asserting his decision to refrain from joining any other political outfit, Butrela, who also served as the president of the Chandigarh unit, announced his resignation from the party.

Earlier, with the announcement of Butrela’s candidacy, the SAD had marked its debut in the Chandigarh Lok Sabha Seat. However, with Butrela’s departure and that of his team members, the party faces a significant setback just as it sought to establish a foothold in the region.

Accompanying Butrela, several other members like Gurpreet Singh, Charanjit Singh, Avtar Singh, Bibi Johal, Sukhwinder Singh Bhatia, Jaswant Kaur, Kamaljit Singh, Kuldeep Singh , Dhanas, Jagtar Singh, Ajit Singh. The collective resignation marks a notable development within the SAD’s Chandigarh unit, reflecting growing discontent within the party ranks.
