Russian and Indonesian naval forces recently held their first joint exercises in the Java Sea, simulating the liberation of a vessel captured by terrorists and countering attacks from unmanned boats, as reported by Russia’s RIA news agency on Monday. The exercises, which began last week, followed Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto’s commitment to strengthening defense ties with Russia, aligning with Jakarta’s traditional non-aligned foreign policy.

According to the Russian Pacific Fleet’s press office, crews practiced coordinated maneuvers, communication protocols, and inspections of suspicious vessels. They also conducted live training against unmanned boats, using both automatic artillery and small arms, with deck helicopters deployed for joint tasks.

Representing Russia were the corvettes “Gromkiy”, “Rezkiy”, “Hero of the Russian Federation Aldar Tsydenzhapov”, and the medium sea tanker “Pechenga”. Indonesia was represented by the frigate “I Gusti Ngurah Rai” and the corvette “Frans Kaisiepo”, RIA reported.
