With Dilbag Singh attaining superannuation at the end of this month, the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, on Friday assigned additional charge of the post of Director General of Police of Jammu and Kashmir to incumbent Special DG RR Swain. According to an order issued by MHA, Swain, who is currently serving as Special DG, CID, has been asked to take the additional charge of the post from November 1.
“With the approval of competent authority, Shri R.R Swain, IPS presently posted as special DG, CID, Jammu and Kashmir will also function as in-charge Director General of Police in addition to his existing charge with effect from 1-11-23 and until further orders,” read the order. Swain is a 1991-batch IPS officer and has vast experience in policing, including counter-terrorism and intelligence. He has served in various key positions in Jammu and Kashmir, including as Senior Superintendent of Police of Srinagar and Jammu. His appointment as in-charge DGP of Jammu and Kashmir is seen as a significant move, given the challenges that the state faces in terms of terrorism and security.
Swain is expected to bring his experience and expertise to bear in meeting these challenges.The people of Jammu and Kashmir have welcomed the appointment of Swain as in-charge DGP and expressed hope that he will be able to lead the police force in maintaining peace and security in the state
