Unidentified armed robbers pushed a 34-year-old man out of a moving Tata Nagar link Express train on Tuesday night between the Barauni-Khagaria rail sections of the East Central Railway’s Samastipur rail division, according to police.
Rajiv Kumar, a resident of Nayagaon in Saran district who works as a Bhelpuri seller in Khagaria, was discovered unconscious along the railway track near Beehat, close to New Barauni railway station.
Rajiv, who has injuries to his legs, hands, and back, is being treated at Begusarai Sadar Hospital after being referred by Beehat Primary Health Centre.
Rajiv boarded the train at Khagaria railway station after receiving an emergency call from his hometown, according to police. He was carrying a bag, a cellphone, and $4,500 in cash. The incident occurred as he was preparing to disembark from the train at Barauni in order to board another train. Unidentified robbers tried to steal his phone and bag as soon as he got close to the gate. He was pushed off the moving train when he resisted. The victim was reportedly pushed out of the train at a slow speed, so he did not sustain serious injuries.
“Since I suffered injuries, miscreants looted ₹4,500 from my pocket. It was only when someone informed the railway police, the latter took me to the sadar hospital,” Rajiv said.
A case of looting and attempt to murder has been lodged Barauni police station, no arrest has been made so far. “Police are still investigating the whereabouts of the assailants,” said station house officer (SHO) of Barauni government railway police (GRP), Mohammad Imran Alam.
