A doctor, who is retired from a government hospital, was denied a loan by an Indian Overseas Bank manager of the GangaiKonda Chozha Branch in Ariyalur district for not knowing Hindi

. Dr C. Balasubramanian, 76, has worked at various hospitals for the past 25 years and retired from Jayamkondaan government hospital and currently staying in Ariyalur District.

He recently approached the Indian Overseas Bank’s branch in GangaiKonda Chozha Puram to avail a loan for building a house in the same area. Balasubramanian is said to be an account holder in the branch for the past 15 years.

Doctor Balasubramanian alleged that when he showed all the related documents for obtaining a loan to the branch manager, he simply asked in English “Do you know Hindi” before looking into the documents.

Balasubramanian replied to the manager that “I don’t know Hindi, but I know Tamil and English”.

On hearing this, the branch manager said that “I’m from Maharashtra, I know only Hindi.

Balasubramanian alleged even after repeatedly asking him to have a look at the documents, the branch manager kept speaking about the language and said that the requested loan cannot be offered to him.

Hurt by the treatment meted out to him by the IOB Branch manager Vishal Narayan Kamble, Dr. Balasubramanian has decided to send a legal notice to him and sue him for causing him mental agony.

Condemning the action of the bank manager, DMK President M.K. Stalin has warned “not to play with the sentiments of the people of TamilNadu.”

Following the uproar in social media, the Chief Manager of the Trichy regional office has transferred the branch manager Vishal Narayan Kamble to the regional office, Trichy with immediate effect.
