As part of the 75th Republic Day celebrations, the Ministry of Culture in India has planned a unique showcase titled ‘Anant Sutra – The Endless Thread.’ This textile installation will feature a spectacular display of sarees from different states and union territories of India. The installation will be positioned at Kartavya Path, offering a visual treat to spectators during the Republic Day parade.
The ‘Anant Sutra’ display will include nearly 1,900 sarees and drapes from all corners of the country, mounted at a height with wooden frames along Kartavya Path. Each saree will have a QR code that can be scanned to learn about the weaving and embroidery techniques used. Additionally, the exhibit will include a 150-year-old saree, paying homage to India’s women and weavers.
Amita Prasad Sarbhai, Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Culture, highlighted the significance of this display as a tribute to the unity and integrity of India. Meenakshi Lekhi, Union Minister of State for Culture & External Affairs, emphasized the profound meaning behind the name ‘Anant Sutra,’ symbolizing the enduring thread of national unity.
The Republic Day parade on January 26, 2024, will not only celebrate the country’s 75th Republic Day but also showcase the rich diversity of India through this cultural display.
