Renowned fashion designer Rohit Bal, known for his iconic designs, is currently in intensive care at Gurugram’s Medanta Hospital, where he is reliant on ventilator support.
Hailing from Srinagar, Bal commenced his illustrious career in 1986 and has since become one of the country’s most acclaimed fashion designers. However, the 62-year-old designer has faced a challenging journey, battling alcohol addiction and undergoing intermittent rehabilitation stints. Last November, his health took a serious downturn, compelling an urgent admission to Medanta Hospital.
This isn’t Bal’s first health setback. He suffered a severe heart attack in February 2010, necessitating an immediate angioplasty procedure.
Rohit Bal has received numerous prestigious awards for his groundbreaking work in the fashion industry. He was named ‘Designer of the Year’ at the 2006 Indian Fashion Awards and the 2001 Kingfisher Fashion Achievement Awards. His exceptional creative abilities were further recognized in 2012, when he was named Lakme Grand Finale Designer.
