Veteran Indian cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin recently launched the anthem for his Global Chess League (GCL) team, the American Gambits, promising a bold and fearless approach to the game. The anthem, titled “Make The World Go”, was composed by Charan Raj and sung by KC of Pineapple Express, according to a press release. Ashwin, a co-owner of the team, shared the anthem online, symbolizing the team’s unity, intensity, and strategic depth as they aim to excel on the global chess stage.

Ashwin co-owns the American Gambits alongside entrepreneur Prachura PP and former Prestige Group CEO Venkat K Narayana. The team is captained by world number two Grandmaster Hikaru Nakamura. Commenting on the anthem’s launch, Ashwin remarked: “For us, chess is about showcasing the best on the board—fueled by passion, guided by strategic thinking, and perfectly playing the role of a gambit. Our goal is to popularize and promote chess both in India and globally. The anthem captures the spirit of fearlessness and ultimate triumph. We are eager to demonstrate how boldly we will play.”

Nakamura, who recently secured third place in the Speed Chess Championship, leads a team comprised of world champions and promising talents. Jan-Krzysztof Duda brings a dynamic, aggressive style, while Vladislav Artemiev contributes a calm, calculated approach. Women’s world rapid champion Bibisara Assaubayeva adds a competitive edge, with veteran Elisabeth Paehtz providing valuable experience. The team also includes young prodigy Jonas Buhl Bjerre, with guidance from coach RB Ramesh, a Dronacharya Awardee.

Nakamura shared his thoughts on the team’s preparation: “Chess isn’t just about moving pieces—it’s about precision, timing, and fearlessness in the face of overwhelming odds. This season, we are ready to push boundaries and make bold sacrifices to achieve victory. The anthem represents everything we stand for.”

The Global Chess League, a collaboration between Tech Mahindra and FIDE, will be held from October 3 to 12 in London.
