Ratan Tata, India’s doyen former chairman of Tata Sons, died at the age of 86. His health worsened after he suffered a sudden fall in blood pressure leading to his admission to Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai. He was later shifted to the ICU.

Last week, Tata was admitted to the hospital, but said allayed public fears by announcing that he was undergoing routine medical check-ups owing to age-related health problems. But with the situation deteriorating, fear sets in.

Tata, on Monday took to social media and let the world know that these growing rumors around his health are very much alive and said, “No cause for concern. In good spirits. It’s a process, normally so and I want everybody from the public to the media to let go of all these baseless information.”.

His last words, which he even tweeted about, went viral after he died. In it, he said, “I am aware of recent rumors circulating regarding my health and want to assure everyone that these claims are unfounded. I am currently undergoing medical check-ups due to my age and related medical conditions. There is no cause for alarm. I remain in good spirits and request that the public and media respect refrain from spreading misinformation.”

Ratan Tata was one of the most influential people in the Indian industrial sector, when he took over as chairman of Tata Sons in 1991. Under his guidance, he transformed the Tata Group from a largely domestic-based organization to a truly global company by acquiring significant international brands such as Tetley, Corus, and Jaguar Land Rover.

It was during his tenure that the Tata Group evolved to become a world business empire worth over $100 billion. Tata retired in December 2012 with Cyrus Mistry taking over as chairman. Unfortunately for the company, Mistry dies by car accident in 2022.
