The Rajya Sabha on Wednesday passed the Jan Vishwas (Amendment of Provisions) Bill, 2023, which aims to decriminalise a number of offences and turn a number of fines into penalties under 42 laws.
Rajya Sabha approved the Jan Vishwas (Amendment of Provisions) Bill, 2023, by voice vote after debating it without the participation of members of the Opposition parties. Earlier, the Lok Sabha had cleared legislation on July 27.
Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said the bill will encourage ease of doing business by decriminalising a number of provisions.
This Jan Vishwas Bill is just the beginning. This is our initial effort; other ones will come, he added, noting that the Know Your Approval section of the ministry’s single window system has all of these facts and revised requirements for the benefit of investors.
As per the Jan Vishvas Bill, 183 provisions in 42 Acts of Parliament related to 19 departments were decriminalised.
