Bharatiya Janata Party leader and Rajya Sabha MP Rambhai Mokariya visited the families of the victims of the Rajkot fire incident on Monday.

“Once the DNA test is conducted, the deceased’s body will be given to their respective families. Many reports have already come out and many are being processed,” Mokariya told reporters.

Confirming the death toll, he said, “The official death toll stands at 28. It has not increased and any number other than that is just a rumour.”

In response to the incident at a gaming zone in Rajkot, the Gujarat government has suspended seven officials, including two police inspectors and civic staff from the Rajkot Municipal Corporation, for dereliction of duty.

The suspended officials are Jaideep Chaudhary, assistant engineer of the RMC town planning department; Gautam Joshi, assistant town planner for RMC; HR Suma, deputy executive engineer of Rajkot Roads and Buildings department; Parsbhai M Kothiya, assistant engineer of the Road and Building Department of RMC; Rohit Vigora, station officer of Fire and Emergency Services of Rajkot Municipal Corporation; and police inspectors VR Patel and NI Rathod.

According to a government release, these officials were held responsible “for their gross negligence in allowing this game zone to operate without necessary approvals.”

Officials stated that an FIR has been filed against six people, including TRP Game Zone owner Yuvraj Hari Singh Solanki and manager Nitin Jain, at Rajkot Taluka Police Station. Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and Home Minister Harsh Sanghavi inspected the Rajkot TRP gaming zone on Sunday and visited the injured at Rajkot’s Giriraj Hospital. Following the incident, all gaming zones in Vadodara were inspected and temporarily shut down.
