The Rajasthan High Court in the case Balmukundacharya Sharma v.Ministry of Information and Broadcasting & Ors observed wherein the Public Interest Litigation was moved Rajasthan High Court seeking a ban on the movie ‘Adipurush,’ which is being based on the Hindu Holy Epic Ramayana.
The Public Interest Litigation, PIL moved alleged that the movie hurts religious sentiments, distorts the facts, and mocks Hindu Gods.
The petitioner in the plea stated that the movie has used derogatory language in the dialogues, which are being delivered by the characters who in the movie represented Hindu Gods such as Lord Hanuman and the Lord Lakshman.
Further, it has also been mentioned by the petitioner that the movie has also destroyed the historical facts which is in connection with the Holy Epic Ramayana.
The petition stated that the scenes of the movie are not only illusionary but it is also giving the wrong message to the younger generation of the country in the matter.
The court observed that the petition highlighted that Ravana according to the Holy Ramayana is considered to be the greatest Devotee of Lord Shiva and most able warrior in the Hindu Mythology. However, the character of Ravana in the movie has been badly mocked by the respondents which being as per their whims.
It has also been stated by the said court that the movie has already been banned by the mayor of Nepal from screening due to its depiction of the character and the history of Mata Janki, and the said movie is currently facing protests in the various parts of India.
Further, the petitioner seeking ban on the screening of the movie and the court also seeks directions to prohibit the exhibition on OTT platforms
