The anticipation surrounding the expansion of the Bhajan Lal government’s cabinet in Rajasthan has reached its conclusion. Cabinet members are scheduled to take the oath at Raj Bhavan on Saturday at 3:15 pm. Following the oath-taking, the distribution of departments among the ministers is expected to take place promptly.
Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, who arrived in Delhi from Jaipur on Friday evening, held meetings with top leaders at the Central Headquarters. Discussions about the cabinet members’ names took place during these meetings. The Chief Minister is set to meet other senior leaders on Saturday morning before returning to Jaipur.
Late at night, MLAs designated as ministers received phone calls instructing them to come to Jaipur. They were advised not to disclose any information about the matter to anyone. Approximately 15 to 20 MLAs are expected to take the oath in the initial cabinet expansion, which will include several new faces. The Chief Minister and two Deputy Chief Ministers have already been sworn in.
The BJP plans to leave around 8 ministerial positions vacant, which will be filled in a subsequent cabinet expansion. If the expansion follows the pattern of Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, some senior and former ministers may be relieved from their cabinet positions.
Most BJP MLAs have already reached Jaipur in anticipation of the oath-taking ceremony. Raj Bhavan has been prepared for the swearing-in ceremony over the last five days, with decorations, chairs, and tents in place. The ceremony will accommodate about 500 guests.
In Rajasthan, the Bharatiya Janata Party secured a majority on December 3. After a 12-day wait, Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, along with Deputy Chief Ministers Diya Kumari and Dr. Premchand Bairwa, took the oath.
Speculations about the cabinet expansion have been ongoing since then, with Congress consistently criticizing the delay.
