Former President of the Congress and the party’s supreme leader Sonia Gandhi was elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha from Rajasthan today. The biggest question now, after Sonia’s election to the Rajya Sabha, is whether Congress will be able to unite completely in Rajasthan.
Another prominent leader of the party, C.P. Venugopal, is also a Rajya Sabha member from Rajasthan. He has been serving as the party’s General Secretary for a decade, so it can be said that he is essentially running the party. The leaders of the Gandhi family are trusted by the party.
However, even after this, Congress members in Rajasthan have proven unsuccessful in keeping themselves united. If the party had taken Rajasthan’s politics more seriously, it could have won the assembly elections last year. It is not that only Venugopal has become a prominent leader to reach the Rajya Sabha from Rajasthan.
Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh was also a Rajya Sabha member from Rajasthan. Sonia Gandhi has been elected from his seat. Along with them, two more prominent leaders of the party, General Secretary Mukul Wasnik and Randeep Surjewala, have also reached the Rajya Sabha from Rajasthan. However, Rajasthan has not benefited from these leaders. These leaders have never properly addressed Rajasthan’s issues in Delhi. There were many schemes like the Eastern Canal Project which could have become a major issue and could have cornered the BJP. However, nothing like this happened. Even during the elections, the party should have fought collectively, and if the incident of September 25, 2022, had been prevented, today there would have been a Congress government in the state and different circumstances at the Centre. Now, since Sonia Gandhi has been elected to the Rajya Sabha from Rajasthan, it is hoped that the elected Rajya Sabha MPs from Rajasthan will give time to the leaders and workers of Rajasthan and listen to their problems. If Venugopal had heard the case of Mahendra Jeet Singh Malviya, he could have been prevented from joining the BJP. It is not that the streak of disruption has ended in Rajasthan. Some former ministers and MLAs can change sides. However, Rajasthan’s in-charge Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa says that now no leader will leave the party. It is hoped that there will be a change in Rajasthan’s politics after Sonia’s election to the Rajya Sabha. The hearing will take place in Delhi. As former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has said Sonia Gandhi’s election to the Rajya Sabha will strengthen Rajasthan’s voice in the Rajya Sabha and will give new energy to the opposition.
