To enhance the ideal customer experience for commuters, the Indian Railway with immediate effect has eliminated the restrictions on the outer limit geofencing for ticket journeys and platform tickets for unreserved on the mobile app with immediate effect.

As senior divisional commercial manager Saurabh Kataria announced, now rail commuters can book their unreserved tickets and platform tickets from any station from their homes.

Earlier, the outer border geofencing distance extended to 50 km. This means that rail commuters used to book their unreserved/platform tickets from a station, which came within a radius of 50 km from the mobile location. But now, the railway has removed the restriction.

However, the internal limit of geo-fencing (station premises) remains unchanged. Which means that the tickets will be booked from outside only.

By removing the outer geofencing restriction. Indian Railways intends to encourage more people to book their tickets via the UTS mobile app. Which is already being facilitated by railways, through smartphones with an internet connection.

Thereby reducing the hassle of standing in long queues at ticket counters.

Lately, the app is gaining popularity among railway commuters due to its user-friendly and easy-to-navigate interface.
