Rahul Kaswan, the Bharatiya Janata Party Lok Sabha MP from Churu in Rajasthan, quit his party and joined the Congress. Kaswan was denied the ticket for Lok Sabha election 2024 by the BJP a few days back following which he vented his ire on social media, signalling that he was looking at other parties to fulfill his electoral ambitions.

Joining the Congress in the presence of party president Mallikarjun Kharge in Delhi, Kaswan stated that he was happy to be apart of the grand old party. He is likely to be made the Congress candidate from Churu, a Lok Sabha constituency he has won in 2014 and 2019.

Kharge welcomed Kaswan into the Congress and added that the decision to bring him into the party was taken after consulation with leaders of the Rajasthan unit of the party. “We welcome Rahul Kaswan into the party. Modi ji is threatening his own party leaders. Congress has taken this step (to include Kaswa into the party) after getting the feedback from our state leaders,” said Kharge.

BJP has fielded nominated Paralympian Devendra Jhajharia from Churu in Lok Sabha election 2024.

Coming from a political family which has been a part of the BJP for last several decades, Kaswan’s father Ram Singh Kaswan was a four-time Lok Sabha MP while his grandfather Deep Chand Kaswan, too, was a member of the Lok Sabha. His mother Kamala Kaswan had won Rajasthan Assembly election as a BJP candidate.
