On the 78th birth anniversary of former Prime Minister of India Rajiv Gandhi, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra paid tribute.

Taking to Twitter Rahul said, “Papa, you are with me every moment, in my heart. I will always try that I can fulfill the dream you dreamed for the country.”

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid homage and said, “On his birth anniversary, tributes to our former Prime Minister Shri Rajiv Gandhi.”

Several Congress leaders also paid tribute to Rajiv Gandhi.

Congress party’s officials’ Twitter handle tweeted, “We fondly remember former Prime Minister of India, Rajiv Gandhi, on his birth anniversary. Hailed as the “architect of 21st century India”, it was through his farsighted vision that ushered in the IT and telecom revolution in India. Today, we celebrate his legacy.”

“Paid my humble tribute to Rajiv Gandhi Ji at Vir Bhumi on his 78th birth anniversary. In the hearts of millions of Indians, he lives forever. #BharatKeRajiv”, Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal said.

Moreover, Congress MP Randeep Singh Surjewala said, “Humble tributes on the 78th Birth Anniversary to a leader, who transformed India’s democracy propelling it in the 21st century. A leader is known for his compassion, humanism, modern ideas, and technological prowess ushering change for the better. You’ll live in India’s hearts. #RajivGandhi.”

However, Rajiv Gandhi was India’s youngest Prime Minister at the age of 40. Rajiv became PM on 1984 and serves till 2 December 1989. During an election rally in Tamil Nadu Rajiv was assassinated by a Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) suicide bomber on 21 May 1991.
