Congress leader Rahul Gandhi accused Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma of employing “intimidation tactics” against the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, asserting that such actions would ultimately benefit the party’s yatra. The ongoing political clash escalated as Chief Minister Sarma instructed the state Director General of Police (DGP) to register a case against Rahul Gandhi for allegedly provoking the crowd.
Rahul Gandhi, leading the party’s yatra from Manipur to Mumbai, held a press conference in Kamrup, referring to the Assam CM as “the most corrupt Chief Minister of the country.” He highlighted issues such as unemployment, corruption, price rise, and farmers’ struggles in the state. Gandhi claimed that the CM’s tactics were inadvertently providing the yatra with additional publicity.
Responding to the Assam CM’s accusations of “Naxalite tactics,” Rahul Gandhi stated that the intimidation tactics were helping the yatra, making it the main issue in Assam. He emphasized the Nyay Yatra’s focus on five pillars of justice and revealed that the Congress party would unveil its comprehensive justice plan in the coming month.
The political confrontation intensified after Congress workers, halted from entering Guwahati, clashed with Assam Police. Rahul Gandhi alleged restrictions on his interaction with students, further fueling the ongoing discord between the Congress and the BJP-led Assam government.
