The US State Department’s Hindustani Language Spokesperson, Margaret Macleod, stated that the Quad, consisting of Australia, Japan, India, and the US, has been focused on improving lives in the Indo-Pacific since its inception. She emphasized that President Joe Biden is hosting the upcoming Quad Summit in Delaware to showcase the significance of his personal relationships with the leaders of the Quad nations.

In an interview with ANI, Macleod mentioned that the next joint statement from the Quad will outline cooperation in various sectors, including cyber security, health security, and maritime security. Biden’s Commitment

MacLeod explained that the Quad Summit on September 21 marks Biden’s first time hosting foreign leaders in Wilmington, his hometown. She indicated that the agenda for bilateral meetings with Prime Minister Narendra Modi has not yet been disclosed by the White House.

Strong US-India Ties

Emphasizing the robust partnership between India and the US, Macleod noted ongoing cooperation in education, space, and advanced technology. She expressed confidence that the relationship will remain significant, regardless of the outcome of the upcoming US elections. “I think there is a lot to talk between India and the US,” she added.

Quad’s Non-Security Focus

MacLeod clarified that the Quad is not a security alliance but acknowledged its response to China’s aggressive actions in the South China Sea. She highlighted the Indo-Pacific Partnership for Maritime Domain Awareness, initiated by the Quad in 2022, as a means of enhancing maritime security in the region.

Addressing China’s Actions

Commenting on China’s recent aggressive behavior, including an attack on a Philippine Coast Guard aircraft, Macleod stated, “Our US government clearly said that the People’s Republic of China government shouldn’t do such acts.” She emphasized that the Quad’s goal is to ensure secure maritime borders for all Indo-Pacific nations.

PM Modi’s Upcoming Visit

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit the US from September 21 to 23, participating in the Quad Summit and addressing the ‘Summit of the Future’ at the UN General Assembly in New York. During his trip, he will meet with various world leaders to discuss mutual interests and will address the Indian community in New York on September 22.

The Ministry of External Affairs noted that the Quad leaders will review progress made over the past year and set an agenda to support the Indo-Pacific region in achieving development goals and aspirations.
