Emerging security threats in Punjab knock at the door of Punjab’s Raj Bhawan. Concerned with the security threat, Punjab Governor Banwari Lal Purohit has instructed the Chandigarh Administration to make changes to Punjab Raj Bhawan. The Chandigarh Administration is set to take strict measures so that no intrusion can be made from outside of Punjab Raj Bhawan. The Chandigarh Heritage Conservation Committee has also given its in-principle approval to make the changes in the Punjab Raj Bhawan while providing special provision.

In the agenda circulated through the email on 28 January 2022, 10 February 2022, and 23 February 2022, the Sub Committee of Chandigarh Heritage Conservation Committee members gave their approval to raise the boundary wall of Punjab Raj Bhawan. It is decided to raise the wall around 10 feet with metal jaffery and barbed wire fencing fixed over a 2 ft. 6 inch high Y-shaped M.S. Angle mounted on the top surface of the boundary wall. The boundary wall will be raised in such a way that there will be no scope for intrusion from outside.

While talking to The Daily Guardian, a senior bureaucrat of the Chandigarh Administration, said, “There is a security threat to Punjab Raj Bhawan. This is why CHCC is asked to approve the plan to raise the boundary wall of Punjab Raj Bhawan. We have inputs of security threat to the Punjab Governor and we are taking precautionary steps while making changes to the Heritage Building.
