The father of the minor accused in the accident involving a luxury vehicle in Maharashtra’s Pune has been remanded to police custody until May 24. He was detained on May 21. The Juvenile Justice Board has formally issued a notice to the 17-year-old accused, requesting his presence for further proceedings and deliberations.
Officials stated that the father of the juvenile suspect was uncooperative in the investigation, leading the Pune police to request his presence for additional questioning in the case. Despite being served a notice to participate in the investigation before his arrest, he provided false information by claiming he was in Shirdi but in reality, he was in Aurangabad.
Advocate Asim Saraode said “On behalf of the intervener, we have argued against granting bail to the father of the accused. The court has rejected the basis on which he was asking for bail and granted him judicial custody until May 24. He tried to present an argument that he had sent a driver with his accused son. Then why was the driver not driving the car and the person with no license was driving the car? I want to say with clarity that their association with gang members or their status as murderers has nothing to do with this case. The case is well discussed throughout the nation and the father is at fault as he failed to protect his minor son.”
He further said the lack of specific provisions in the FIR raises questions about why the police filed two FIRs. This issue may be brought to the high court for clarity. The FIR lacks details about the prohibition act and seems manipulated. There’s speculation that external pressure may have influenced the police, leading them to mislead the court. However, societal pressure is now pushing the police to adhere to legal protocols.
On Tuesday, the Pune Excise Department took firm action by closing down the Cosie Bar and the Black Bar in Pune. According to officials, these venues reportedly served alcohol to a minor before the incident. The bar managers were subsequently arrested by the police.
Two young IT professionals, identified as Ashwini Koshta and Aneesh Awadhia, both from Madhya Pradesh, were killed in the accident that took place in Pune’s Kalyani Nagar on Sunday (May 19).
