The Pune crime branch arrested a man on Thursday for allegedly impersonating an IAS officer assigned to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).

The accused, identified as Vasudev Nivrutti Tayade (54), a resident of Talegaon Dabhade, was apprehended on May 29 while attending an event, according to officials. According to the police, he was caught pretending to be a senior officer while attending an NGO function.

During the event, the accused Tayade pretended to be an IAS officer on a secret mission from the Prime Minister’s Office in Pune. Tayade hid his true identity by posing as Dr Vinay Dev and claiming to be on a secret mission.

However, when questioned about other senior officers, he gave evasive answers and quickly left the event. Out of suspicion, the organizer informed the police about Tayade, and a team was formed, and an investigation was launched.

During the investigation, the Crime Branch attempted to track him down using his phone location, but he kept changing locations. Finally, on 30 May, police tracked him down in Talegaon Dabhade, Pune, and took him into custody. During questioning, it was discovered that he was a phony IAS officer who claimed to be on a secret mission.

He had introduced himself as an IAS officer to the event attendees and had been deceiving them by posing as a Deputy Secretary. Based on this, a case has been filed against him at Chaturshrangi Police Station under IPC sections 170 and 419. Officials were looking into the matter further to see if he was involved in any other crimes.
