N Rangasamy, Chief Minister of Puducherry has declared a two-day holiday for all the educational institutions as the region is facing heavy rainfall.

Heavy rainfall in the union territory has triggered severe waterlogging in the region. As stated by the Meteorological  Department, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry are likely to experience heavy rains from the next three days, as the depression that formed in the Bay of Bengal is likely to move towards Tamil Nadu and Puducherry coast as an intense depression.

“Puducherry and surrounding areas have been receiving widespread heavy rains since last night due to the low-pressure area,” the Meteorological Department said. It added that the unceasing rains in areas like Bussi Road, Laspettai East Coast Road, Karuvadikuppam are flooded compelling the motorists to suffer.

Due to severe rain, the Puducherry government has mandated a two-day break for schools and institutions in Karaikal and Puducherry on Friday, November 11, and Saturday, November 12.

Similar to the situation in Tamil Nadu, schools and colleges have been ordered to remain closed today in a number of districts due to the state’s ongoing rainfall.

All schools and institutions in Tiruvallur, Sivaganga, Madurai, Kancheepuram, Dindigul, and other districts have declared a holiday today due to the Indian Meteorological Department’s (IMD) notice.

The Tiruvallur district collector tweeted on Thursday, “Based on the rain forecast for tomorrow, a holiday has been declared for all schools and colleges in Tiruvallur district for tomorrow.”

In the districts of Kancheepuram and Madurai, both schools and colleges will be closed, however in the districts of Sivaganga and Dindigul, only schools will be closed.
