In a significant demonstration against the newly introduced hit and run law by the central government, bus drivers have joined forces with truck drivers, causing disruptions in various districts of the state and leading to the suspension of bus services on Monday. The impact of this protest has reverberated across multiple districts.

Concerns of bus and truck drivers:
Bus drivers opposing the law argue that the legislation puts them in a challenging position. If they attempt to aid an injured patient during an accident, they face the risk of violence from onlookers. On the other hand, attempting to escape the scene could result in severe penalties under the new law. The legislation stipulates that a driver fleeing after a collision may face a sentence of up to 10 years and substantial fines.
This widespread protest underscores the discontent among drivers who are demanding a reconsideration of the hit and run law, asserting that it poses challenges to their ability to respond effectively in accident scenarios. The situation remains tense as authorities grapple with finding a resolution to address the concerns raised by the protesting drivers.

Protests across districts:

  • Sabla, Dungarpur District: Drivers initiated a roadblock on the Banswara-Udaipur State Highway, demanding the withdrawal of the new law from the government.
  • Baran District: At Char Murti Chauraha, bus and truck drivers staged demonstrations by burning tires, urging the government to reconsider the new bill.
  • Roadblocks in Dausa: In Dausa, truck and bus drivers blocked roads around 11 am, disrupting routes to Ajmer, Delhi, Sikar, and Tonk. This affected an estimated 10 to 15 thousand passengers. However, police intervention after 2 pm led to the reopening of roads and the resumption of vehicle movement.
