Under the directions of Justice Gurmeet Singh Sandhawalia, Judge, Punjab and Haryana High Court and Executive Chairman, Punjab State Legal Services Authority, SAS Nagar, an awareness program was organized by District Legal Services Authority, SAS Nagar in Rehabilitation Centre, SAS Nagar in collaboration with Departments of Health and Police.
Baljinder Singh Maan, Secretary, DLSA, SAS Nagar while addressing the gathering revealed about theme of World Mental Health Day 2023: “Mental health is a universal human right”. He further enlightened that the object of observance of the day is to create an awareness about mental illness and to start a discussion on mental health issues like borderline personality disorder, depression, anxiety, etc., and to provide those who suffer from it, a safe space and comfort, to be able to openly accept and address such issues. He further added that Legal Services Authorities provide free legal services to persons with mental incapacity as per section 12 of the Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987.
The patients getting treatment in the Rehabilitation Centre were educated about their rights under the NALSA (Legal Services to the Mentally III and Mentally Disabled Persons) Scheme 2015 and NALSA (Legal Services to the Victims of Drug Abuse and the Eradication of the Drug Menace) Scheme, 2015.
