Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the DAKSHIN Global Centre for Excellence, a visionary initiative for countries in the Global South. This move comes after PM Modi’s proposal during the first Voice of the Global South Summit earlier this year.
During the inauguration at the Second Voice of Global South Summit, PM Modi expressed his satisfaction, stating, “I am happy that the Dakshin Development and Knowledge Sharing Initiative Global South Centre for Excellence is being inaugurated today.”
The Prime Minister also unveiled plans for a satellite dedicated to monitoring weather and climate in the Global South, emphasising India’s commitment to technology that bridges rather than widens gaps.
In a strategic move, PM Modi highlighted the importance of unity in the Global South, stating, “Geographically, the Global South has always existed, but it is getting a voice for the first time, and this is because of joint efforts. We are more than 100 countries, but our priorities are similar.”
Furthermore, PM Modi reiterated India’s stance on responsible technology use, announcing the upcoming AI Global Partnership Summit next month.
The Global South’s prominence was evident in the New Delhi G20 Declaration, where India prioritised inclusivity and a human-centric approach. PM Modi shared his pride in India’s efforts to secure the African Union’s permanent membership in the G20.
Amid global challenges, the Second Voice of the Global South Summit, conducted virtually, aims to sustain momentum towards a more inclusive, representative, and progressive world order. The inaugural and concluding leaders’ sessions, hosted by PM Modi, focus on unity and growth for a collective future.
The theme of the inaugural leaders’ session is “Together, for Everyone’s Growth, with Everyone’s Trust” and that of the concluding leaders’ session is “Global South: Together for One Future”, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) articulated.
