Trinamool’s Kunal Ghosh’s ‘Rat’ Photo Barb, CPM Leader’s ‘Rabbit’ Comeback

In the midst of a heated political exchange over the rape-murder of a doctor in Kolkata, a senior Trinamool Congress leader’s jibe has sparked a clever response from a CPM leader. Trinamool Congress spokesperson Kunal Ghosh shared a photograph on his X account today, where he is seen holding a rat in his left hand. The caption in Bengali read, “Naming him Shatarup,” a comment directed at CPM West Bengal state committee member Shatarup Ghosh.

This exchange is part of a larger series of verbal confrontations between Kunal Ghosh and Shatarup Ghosh, set against the backdrop of the political tension following the rape-murder of a 31-year-old doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital last month.

Recently, Kunal Ghosh released an audio clip, claiming there was a conspiracy to attack protesting doctors to tarnish the image of the Mamata Banerjee government. Following this, Kolkata Police arrested CPM leader Kalatan Dasgupta. Shatarup Ghosh had criticized Kunal Ghosh over his party colleague’s arrest.

Shortly after Kunal Ghosh’s post on X, Shatarup Ghosh responded on Facebook. He wrote in Bengali, “Thank you, Kunal da, for naming the free rat Shatarup. As a mark of gratitude, I name the jailed rabbit next to you Kunal Ghosh.” This was a reference to Kunal Ghosh’s imprisonment after being implicated in the Saradha chit fund scam that shook West Bengal in 2013.

Shatarup Ghosh’s comeback has been widely appreciated on social media, with many users applauding his wit.

Earlier this month, Kunal Ghosh was in the spotlight for another sharp retort. After BJP leader Papiya Adhikari threatened to pull his hair, he responded on X, “Papiya Adhikari, a former actress, then CPM, and now BJP leader, has publicly threatened to slap me, pull my hair. I have lost my hair. It is not right to cast an evil eye on them. Instead, suggest medicines that may help hair growth.”
