Congress Unveils Sixth List, Names Five Candidates for LS Polls

Congress Unveils Sixth List, Names Five Candidates for LS Polls

Congress unveiled its sixth list, naming five candidates for the Lok Sabha elections in Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu on Monday.

The party has revealed four candidates from Rajasthan and one from Tamil Nadu.
In Rajasthan, Ramchandra Choudhary has been nominated for the Ajmer Lok Sabha seat, Sudarshan Rawat for Rajsamand, Damodar Gurjar for Bhilwara, and Prahlad Gunjal will contest against Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla in the Kota constituency.

Rajasthan, with 25 parliamentary constituencies, will undergo voting in two phases. Phase 1, scheduled for April 19, will witness polling on 12 seats, while the remaining 13 seats will go to polls in the second phase on April 26.

C Robert Bruce will run on a Congress ticket from the Tirunelveli constituency in Tamil Nadu.

Tamil Nadu will cast its votes for all 39 Lok Sabha seats on April 19.

The Congress additionally announced that Tharahai Cuthbert will run in the bye-election from the Vilavancode constituency in Tamil Nadu.

Previously, on Sunday, the Congress party unveiled its fifth list, featuring three candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. The list included Pratap Singh Khachariyawas from Jaipur, replacing Sunil Sharma as previously announced.

Meanwhile, on Sunday, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) disclosed its fifth list of candidates for the Lok Sabha elections.

The BJP has unveiled the candidates for the Lok Sabha seats in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Odisha, Rajasthan, Haryana, Maharashtra, West Bengal, Kerala, Karnataka, Goa, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Mizoram, Sikkim, Telangana, West Bengal, and Andhra Pradesh.

Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut has been nominated from Mandi in Himachal Pradesh, traditionally a stronghold of Congress. Additionally, the party has put forward veteran actor Arun Govil, renowned for portraying the character of Lord Ram in Ramanand Sagar’s ‘Ramayan’, from Meerut in Uttar Pradesh.

The election for 543 Lok Sabha seats will take place in seven phases, commencing on April 19. Nearly 97 crore voters are eligible to cast their votes in the general election.

The Congress has declared candidates for 190 constituencies, whereas the BJP has announced candidates for 402 Lok Sabha seats thus far.

Vote counting is scheduled for June 4.

In the 2019 Lok Sabha election, the BJP secured victory in 303 seats, while the Indian National Congress (INC) attained only 52 seats.

In the 2014 Lok Sabha election, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) secured victory in 282 seats, while the Indian National Congress (INC) attained only 44 seats.
