One day rainfall has exposed the loopholes in the civil administration of Hyderabad. People affected by rain and flood are furious with the public representatives and officials. Thousands of people are still in their water surrounded homes in Ramanthapur, Tolichowki, Faluknuma and other areas of Hyderabad.

Two MLAs were heckled and scolded by the locals when they toured the flood-affected areas. Locals hurled slippers at Ibrahimpatnam’s TRS MLA Manchireddy Kishan Reddy and other workers, during their visit to the floodaffected Medipally area. Ibrahimpatnam MLA’s vehicle was also vandalised.

The MLA had arrived in the area after Telangana was battered by torrential rains that triggered one of the worst floods in recent times claiming more than 50 lives. As MLA Subhas Reddy visited the inundated areas in Uppal, navigating the streets in a boat, a woman was seen talking to him from the balcony of her first or second-floor residence. She was seen asking the MLA, “should we stay alive or should we die? If you don’t do justice, we will write your name and die.” The MLA asked her, “Who asked you to build these houses?” The women were the residents of the lake bed area, encroached long ago and many houses were built there.

“This is not something that just happened in my house. This is a calamity, the rains were sudden, the government is not responsible for this. We are working day and night,” MLA Subash Reddy said. One angry lady told The Daily Guardian, “This time we will not vote for anyone. We will vote for the NOTA. We were cheated by builders and leaders like this.”

On the other hand, authorities fished out 10 more bodies from various parts of Hyderabad, even as the government announced that 50 people have so far died in the floods across the state. Telangana CM KCR has pegged the loss suffered by the state at 5,000 crores of rupees but released only 5 crores.

KCR urged the Centre to release Rs 1,350 crore as immediate relief. All the UG & PG regular & supplementary exams of JNTUH scheduled on 16 October have been postponed due to road blockages, power & network issues caused by heavy rains. The power supply is yet to be restored in a few submerged colonies and apartments.
