In the run up to the Lok Sabha elections to be held on May 25 in sixth phase following the polls schedule issued by Election Commission of India (ECI), candidates of political parties are sweating profusely in the election campaign to ensure victory. BJP has announced candidates for all 10 Lok Sabha seats, Congress for 8 remaining undecided on Gururam parliamentary seat due to the widened rift among the party big shots, Jannayak Janata Party (JJP) for 10 and Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) for 6 seats. Since there is an alliance between Congress and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) under opposition’s ‘’INDI’’ bloc in Haryana, as an ally, the party has fielded former Rajya Sabha MP Sushil Gupta from Kurukshetra in the election battle. Apart from this, INLD backed Virendra Maratha is contesting from Karnal on the ticket of National Congress Party (Sharad Pawar faction).
In order to gain political mileage in forthcoming polls, , no party is hesitating from imported leaders which is clearly evident from the plight as well as the joining of the leaders of ruling and opposite factions. Before the Lok Sabha elections, it is continuously coming to the fore that the leaders of all the parties are making every effort to bring the maximum number of leaders of other parties into their camp to gain psychological edge as well as electoral benefits.In this series, on April 30, many stalwarts from other parties joined the BJP in the presence of BJP stalwart and the Chief Minister Nayab Saini while a day before this on April 29, many big faces including the former state JJP president along with supporters joined the Congress.
Even in the ruling BJP in Haryana, leaders of other parties are continuously turning to the party to fulfill their political ambitions. Among the big shots who bid farewell to their party and joined BJP recently, are Ashok Serwal, Kusum Sherwal, Bijendra Singh, Ashok Tanwar, Naveen Jindal, Savitri Jindal, Harpal Singh and Satpal Sangwan. As many as 6 candidates who joined the BJP presently or earlier quitting their parties have been fielded by the saffron BJP on 6 Lok Sabha seats while out of these six, three including Rao Inderjeet Singh, Dharambir Singh and Arvinder Sharma had contested the Lok Sabha polls successfully in 2019 from.
Gurugram, Bhiwani-Mahendragarh and Rohtak seats. Besides, among those who have been made to contest the Lok Sabha presently after joining BJP include former Congress veteran Naveen Jindal, Ashok Tanwar, and Ranjit Singh Chautala, who was sworn in as cabinet minister by BJP.
Similarly, the plight and joining of leaders also can be witnessed in the main opposition party Congress. In continuation to aforesaid, it is noteworthy that the leaders of the Congress, a divided house in the state, from opposite factions are trying to strengthen their position in the party by bringing maximum leaders from other parties into their camp. In this series, on April 29, former JJP state president Nishan Singh joined the party in the presence of Congress heavyweight and leader of opposition Bhupendra Singh Hooda.
Earlier, among the big faces leaving BJP, mainly former central Birendra Singh and his son Brijendra Singh, who was a BJP MP, quir the party and joined Congress due to not getting tickets even before the distribution of tickets.
The JJP, which was an ally in the power with the BJP for about four and a half years continues to go through a lot. With party MLA Jogiram Sihag bidding farewell to the party citing personal reasons, the former party president and national general secretary along with several office bearers have also quit the party ahead of polls. While in this series, Randhir Singh, son of JJP MLA Ishwar Singh resigned from the post of Dairy Development Cooperative Federation and is believed to join the Congress. It is believed that he may join Congress soon. Thus, JJP is facing back to back setbacks ahead of polls.
INLD, an arch rival of JJP has been in exile from power for almost 2 decades and has huge hope from the Lok Sabha elections. The party has announced the names of candidates on 6 Lok Sabha seats, while after supporting NCP candidates on one seat, candidates are yet to be declared on 3 seats. Recently, women wing leaders of other parties in the districts had joined the party. However, no big face has joined the party. Following the demise of former party state president Nafe Singh Rathi, Rampal Majrea has been made the new state president. Earlier he had joined BJP but he was not very active in the political circles but now after joining INLD, he has been given this responsibility.
