Nashik police made a significant drug bust on Sunday, confiscating 6 kg of Mephedrone (MD), with an estimated street value of nearly Rs 12 crore, from a warehouse located just 500 meters away from a facility previously raided by the Mumbai Police. The Mumbai Police had earlier uncovered 133 kg of MD, valued at over Rs 300 crore, during a raid in the Nashik MIDC area. This led to heightened scrutiny of chemical processing units and warehouses by Nashik’s Commissioner of Police, Ankush Shinde.
As part of this proactive drive, the Nashik Road police, led by Senior Inspector Devidas Wanjale and API Hemant Fad, discovered a suspicious warehouse in Shinde village. During the inspection, 5.87 kg of MD, as well as approximately 100 drums and raw materials, were seized. The facility was not used for drug production but solely for storage.
A case has been registered against three individuals under sections 8A, 22, and 8C of the Narcotics, Drugs, and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and a search is underway for them. Authorities will also investigate any potential connections between this location and Lalit Patil, a key suspect in the Mumbai Police’s earlier case. The Nashik police intend to examine warehouses and chemical processing units associated with approximately 123 companies in the region to ensure they are not involved in drug production or storage.
