A 30-year-old nurse was allegedly subjected to a brutal gang rape and torture by six men on Thursday morning, leading to widespread condemnation and a call for swift justice.

The victim, employed as a staff nurse in an area under the Churkhi police station, was en route to work around 9 a.m. on her scooter when she was ambushed. According to her husband, she was forcibly dragged into nearby bushes by a group of men.

“Four of the men held her down while two others took turns raping her,” her husband recounted. “They then violated her with a stick and inserted chilli powder into her private parts.” The traumatised nurse managed to contact her husband immediately after the assault, who then alerted the authorities.

Additional Superintendent of Police (Jalaun) Pradeep Kumar Verma stated that upon receiving information about the assault, a police team promptly arrived at the scene and transported the victim to a hospital for medical examination and treatment.

However, the police have presented a differing narrative. ASP Verma suggested that the woman was involved in a relationship with a man from the same village and that a dispute with him and his family led to her being beaten. “She has made some serious allegations. We have registered a case and are investigating,” he added.

The victim underwent a medical examination to confirm the allegations of sexual assault and torture. Authorities have assured a thorough investigation, stating that all angles will be explored to ascertain the truth.

The incident has ignited outrage among local residents and women’s rights activists, who are demanding a comprehensive and unbiased investigation. They emphasize the importance of not dismissing the victim’s allegations and ensuring that justice is served.
