A police officer sustained injuries during a raid in Bishnah, Jammu, targeting the arrest of a notorious criminal-cum-bovine smuggler, Gulzar Ahmed alias Lahu Gujjar. The Jammu and Kashmir Police team, led by SP Headquarters Ramnish Gupta, faced gunfire and stone-pelting during their operation in Chak Waziroo village.

The police team initiated the raid to apprehend Lahu Gujjar, against whom a Public Safety Act (PSA) warrant had been issued by the District Magistrate of Jammu. The incident unfolded around 5:30 AM when the team encountered resistance from the Gujjar community through stone-pelting. In the clash, Head Constable Bansi Lal of the Indian Reserve Police (IRP) sustained injuries.

“In order to execute the PSA warrant issued by DM Jammu, a police team reached in village Chak Waziroo where one Phalla Gujjar along with some fifteen unknown males and female of Gujjar Community with common and criminal intention attacked on police party,” stated an official. The sudden attack resulted in the serious injury of Head Constable Bansi Lal, who was promptly shifted to Sub District Hospital, Bishnah, for treatment.

Amidst the chaos and taking advantage of dense fog and low visibility, Lahu Gujjar managed to escape from the scene.
