The Jammu and Kashmir Police have escalated their efforts in the ongoing investigation into a murder stemming from a land dispute, officials revealed on Wednesday.
The incident, which occurred on May 1, saw Avtar Singh (40), son of Balbir Singh, fatally injured with an iron rod during a clash between two groups vying for ownership of a piece of land in Greater Kailash locality. Singh succumbed to his injuries due to excessive bleeding.
Following the tragic event, an enraged mob, comprising the deceased’s family and relatives, blockaded the Kalu-Chak road on the Jammu-Pathankot national highway, demanding a CBI probe into the killing, as reported by police sources.
In a bid to crack down on the perpetrators, the police have conducted multiple raids at the residences of suspects associated with the case. Two vehicles allegedly involved in the crime have been seized, alongside efforts to effectuate the arrest of the suspects, stated a police spokesperson.
Utilizing technological aids, law enforcement authorities have meticulously examined CCTV footage from the vicinity of the crime scene, digitally extracting pertinent evidence in their pursuit of justice, the spokesperson added.
Reaffirming their commitment to unraveling the truth behind the crime and addressing its underlying causes, the police underscored their determination to solve the case. As part of the ongoing investigation, eight individuals have been detained thus far.
Additionally, in connection with the murder, two police officials have been suspended, with a departmental inquiry initiated to ascertain further details surrounding the incident.
