In a determined effort to curb terrorism and dismantle its support networks, the police in Baramulla have taken swift action by attaching a residential house and a Swift Car under relevant sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. This move comes as part of an ongoing crackdown on individuals involved in aiding and abetting terrorists.
The action is a result of intensive investigations related to two cases. In the first case (FIR No. 104/2023), under sections 7/25 I.A Act, 120-B IPC, 13, 16, 18, 23 UA (P) Act at Police Station Uri, a Swift Car with registration number CH01AD-9588 was seized. The vehicle was found to be involved in the transportation of illegal arms and ammunition for terrorist activities. Under the powers vested in them by Section 25 of UA (P) Act, the Deputy Superintendent of Police (SIU) Baramulla, who is also the Chief Investigating Officer (CIO) of the case, attached the Swift Car after obtaining approval from the competent authority.
In the second case), under sections of Arms Act, and UA (P) Act, at Police Station Kreeri, a residential house belonging to Farooq Ahmad Bhat, son of Late Ghulam Mohammad, situated at Wanigam Payeen was attached. The house was allegedly being used for harboring terrorists. Dr. Khalid Ashraf, JKPS, DySP Ops Kreeri, and the Investigating Officer (IO) of the case, exercised the powers under Section 25 of UA (P) Act to attach the residential property after obtaining approval from the competent authority.
These decisive measures underscore the commitment of law enforcement agencies to dismantle the infrastructure supporting terrorism and send a strong message against those involved in such activities. The attachments were carried out in adherence to due process and legal provisions, marking a significant step in the fight against terrorism in the region.
