Police arrests gang of thieves in Ganderbal; stolen goods worth lakhs recovered

Police in Ganderbal have successfully apprehended a gang of thieves involved in multiple theft cases, recovering stolen property worth lakhs from their possession.

The operation commenced following a written complaint filed on April 18, 2024, by Farhad Yousuf, a resident of Yarmuqam. Yousuf reported that unknown individuals had broken into his house during the night of April 17-18, 2024, stealing gold items and cash.

In response, a case was registered at Police Station Lar under FIR No.16/2024, and a special investigation team, supervised by DySP Headquarters Ganderbal, was formed to track down the culprits.

The investigation, aided by technical evidence, led to the summoning of several prime suspects to PS Lar. During questioning, two suspects, identified as Tariq Ahmad Rather, son of Gh Mohd Rather of Khan Mohalla Pati Takanwari, and Manzoor Ahmad Chopan, son of Gh Mohd Chopan of Larson Ganderbal, confessed to their involvement in the crime.

Further interrogation revealed that these individuals, along with other associates who had fled to Kargil, were also involved in two additional theft cases registered under FIR Nos. 13 and 17 of 2024 at PS Lar. A police party was dispatched to Kargil, resulting in the apprehension of three more accused: Sheraz Ahmad Guroo alias Sheru, son of Mohd Shafi Guroo of Gaad Hanjimohalla Gund Roashan; Showket Ahmad Saad alias Veeru, son of Gul Saad of Narayan Bagh Shadipora; and a juvenile (name withheld).

The stolen property recovered from their possession includes cash amounting to 10,000, seven gold rings, four gold earrings (Jhumkas), eight gold earrings (Baali), one gold brooch, two gold ear tops, and two other earrings.
